Press Release

Atlanta – A group of theology students from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University will be leading two Interfaith Prayer Vigils for Troy Davis on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 12 Noon and 8:00 PM in Cannon Chapel.

“This is an opportunity for the Emory community and those in the surrounding area to come together and pray for justice for Troy and healing for the McPhail family,” says Kim Jackson, the student body president of Candler. “All too often we forget that prayer is a type of direct action and a very powerful way for us to be involved in the fight for justice.”

Troy Davis was convicted of murdering Officer Mark McPhail in 1989. Davis is scheduled to be executed on Monday, October 27, 2008 in Jackson, GA. Supporters of Davis believe that he is innocent and that the evidence used to convict him is unreliable and implausible.

This vigil is free and open to the public.
